This policy explains what resumefromgit.com does with data, in plain language. It covers the whole site, including profile pages, the resume builder, and any advertising you may see.
resumefromgit.com is a free tool that turns any public GitHub profile into a visual developer dashboard and an ATS-friendly PDF resume. It is run as a small independent project from Kolkata, India. There are no accounts, no logins, and nothing to install.
Information we collect
The site is designed to collect as little as possible. To be precise, this is what that means.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, so no usernames, passwords, or profile information.
- No GitHub logins, OAuth authorisations, or personal access tokens. We never ask you to connect your GitHub account.
- No payment information. The site is free.
- No contact lists, address books, or precise location data.
- No data from private repositories. The credential our server uses can only read what GitHub already publishes publicly.
Public GitHub data
When you open a profile page, our server queries GitHub’s public GraphQL API for that username and displays the result: profile details, public repositories, language statistics, pinned items, public social links and the public contribution calendar. This is the same information GitHub already publishes on the profile page itself.
Responses are cached for up to twelve hours so that repeated visits do not exhaust GitHub’s rate limits. The cache holds only the public data described above and expires automatically.
Technical request data
Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request information, such as IP address, browser and device details, and the URL requested, in order to deliver and protect the site. This is ordinary web server operation, common to virtually every website.
Data that stays in your browser
Anything you type into the resume form, such as contact details, work
experience, education and a summary, is stored only in your browser’s
localStorage. It is never transmitted to our servers, and the
PDF is generated entirely inside your browser. Clearing your browser
storage deletes it permanently. We hold no copy and could not recover it.
A few small functional values are also kept in localStorage:
your light/dark theme preference, your consent choice, and a couple of
interface preferences. All of these stay on your device and are never sent
anywhere.
Cookies
The site itself does not set cookies. The local storage described above is the only data the site writes.
Where analytics and advertising are enabled, Google Analytics 4 and Google
AdSense may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser, such as the
_ga and _ga_* cookies used by Analytics. These are
set by Google, not by us, and are subject to Google’s own policies.
In regions where prior consent is required, including the EEA, the UK and India, no analytics or personalised advertising identifier is set until you accept via the consent banner. Declining leaves the entire site fully functional. In other regions these services may run by default; you can still control them through your browser settings and the Google controls below.
Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is used to understand traffic in aggregate: how many people visit, which pages are read, what devices and browsers are used, and roughly where visitors come from. This helps us keep the site fast and useful. It is not used to build a profile that identifies you as an individual.
Advertising
The site may display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google may show personalised ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites, or non-personalised ads. Where consent is required, personalised advertising only runs after you accept.
You can see how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and manage your advertising preferences, here:
Third-party services
The site relies on a small number of third-party services:
- GitHub, for public profile data via its API, under GitHub’s own privacy statement.
- Cloudflare, for hosting, content delivery and security, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Google, for analytics and advertising, under Google’s privacy policy.
- Upstash, which hosts the short-lived cache described above.
Data retention
Cached profile data expires automatically within twelve hours. Resume
fields and other localStorage values persist until you clear
your browser storage, and we hold no copy of them. Data handled by Google
Analytics and AdSense is retained according to Google’s own settings
and policies, and Cloudflare may retain technical logs in line with its own
policy.
If your profile appears here
Profile pages are generated on demand from public GitHub data. They are not listed in our sitemap and are not submitted for indexing. If you make your GitHub account private or delete it, the corresponding page stops resolving and the cached copy expires within twelve hours.
A small number of well-known developers additionally appear on curated showcase and list pages. If you would like to be removed, contact us and we will remove the page.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices and privacy rights
Because we hold no accounts and no personal database, most of the control is in your hands:
- Clear your browser storage to delete resume fields and preferences.
- Manage or disable cookies and advertising identifiers in your browser.
- Use the Google Ads Settings link above to control personalised advertising.
- Contact us to request removal from any curated page.
If you have a question about how your information is handled, or want to request a copy or deletion of anything we hold, write to us via the contact page. Removal requests are prioritised.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will change with it.
